i got a pair of chrome headers 3" what are the other pipes that i need called?

For this answer, I am assuming that you want to drive the car on the road and not just on the drag strip.

Your headers bolt directly onto your exhaust manifold(s). From there you have several options. Some legal some not so much. The illegal would be to run uncapped headers or to bolt mufflers referred to as "Cherry Bombs" directly to your headers. You'll get some serious rumble and it will sound like a beast.

On the legal side, that is a different story. It all depends on the year of your car as to whether or not you can run an exhaust system without a catalytic converter legally. If the car came with a catalytic converter from the factory, then state law requires it in case you get pulled over.

I am going to assume that you could care less about the catalytic converter and move forward with an answer. You can run an exhaust system bolted directly to your headers. A collector is used as a device to "uncap " the headers should you want to run open headers. Collectors also serve as a reducer to bolt on the exhaust pipes. Mufflers are used prior to the tail pipe.

Not certain any of this terminology is what you are looking for but that is pretty much all that there is to an exhaust System.
