How do I swap my 93 Del Sol S engine for the SI engine?

I have a 1993 Honda Del Sol S with 1.5L non-vtec in it. It was 160k on it but the body is spotless. I just bought another 93 del sol that was in an accident. It has the 1.6 SOHC Vtec engine (d16z6 ) with 41k on it.. I payed 500 dollars for the car and wanted to know how to swap that engine into my non vtec del sol.
How long would it take to do the swap?
How much money would it cost?
Would I need to buy anything else?

It depends on a few things. Are you planning on doing this yourself, or paying someone else to do it for you? If you do it yourself, it will be less expensive to do, but you'll need to have the tools to do it.

You'll need wrenches & sockets; 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, 19mm, and one for the axle nuts (I can't remember the size off the top of my head, but I believe it's 32mm). You'll also need a good pry bar, a mini sledge hammer, some punches (for the shiftlinkage pin), flat head & philips head screwdrivers, penetrating spray (like Liquid Wrench or PB Blaster), a long pipe for extra leverage, jack stands, and a good floor jack. But the most important tool is a service manual, especially a Helms factory service manual. This will essentially tell you how to remove and install the engine, step by step. A few other things will make the job a heck of a lot easier, and I'd highly recommend either buying these, borrowing these from a friend, or renting these. An engine hoist (aka cherry picker) will make taking out the engine and putting the new one in, far easier and much safer. There are ways around having to use one, but I don't recommend it. Another thing is an air compressor and air tools. These will save you a ton of time (hours or days worth of work), as well as save on the amount of penetrating spray that you'll need. The only major difference between the engine (for swapping purposes), is wiring up the vtec solenoid and pressure switch. It's just 2 wires through your firewall (wires taped to a metal coat hanger works well), and a ground wire. Here's where to wire those:

The Green wire is the VTEC solenoid, the Pressure Switch is an Orange/Blue wire along with the black ground wire.

The time it takes really depends on how much the person doing the swap knows. My friend and I can do a simple D-series to D-series swap in around 3 hours. The average time would be around 8 hours or less, if you know what you're doing and you're just taking your time. But it's a good idea to plan for an entire weekend, just in case, because things do happen. Meaning start on the swap Friday night and plan for it to be done Sunday evening or night.

Cost really varies. Shops usually charge anywhere from $300-800, because it's really not a hard swap to do. If you do it yourself, then it's pretty much just the cost of tools, fluids, & tune-up parts.

For the actually swap, you shouldn't need to buy any extra parts. Since they are both OBD1 ('92-'95) D-series engines, everything is pretty much compatible. Mounts, axles, & transmissions will swap between the 2.
