Cat gone, any harm . . . . . . . .?
My son removed the cat and muffler from his '00 Jeep Cherokee and put in a small muffler with straight exhaust pipe. The second 02 sensor is now out of the system so the check engine light is on but it appears to run normally and the fuel mileage has not dropped.
Is there any potential trouble later on, and are there any aftermarket parts that plug into the 02 sensor plug that tells the computer that everything is normal?
actually it can cause carbon buildup,extreme heat and yes sometimes better performance.a high flow cat would be better,every1 has a part to play!ok just for your info,search around the internet and look for the o2 sensors normal operating resistance range.substitute a resistor in circuit to provide said resistance(aim for roughly the middle of the scale)that will turn off the mil(it should).the resistance value should be printed online somewhere, its used for diagnosing the system.
