Ford F350 Powerstroke with 225,000 miles on it?

I am looking at buying a used 2003 Ford F350 Powerstroke Pickup Truck. It has a 225,000 miles on it. It this a good investment for $12,000 or should I look elsewhere?

In 2003 they had the 7.3 and 6.0. Which are you reffering too?? If it is the 6.0, stay away from it. Those models were the first off the production line and were plauged with problems.

If you are talking about the 7.3, I'd keep shopping around for a better deal. 2yrs ago I bought my 01 F350, auto, 4x4, crew cab for $12,000 with only 139,000miles on it. Everything about the truck was straight when I bought it. When looking to buy a powerstroke, check the frame for rust, check to see if it has had a programmer or chip, etc. Take it to a diesel shop and have them run a diagnostic on it. If it has been well maintained it has at least another 250,000 miles to go. Also, if it is a 7.3 you are looking at.... its piston rods are powder forged and can't take as much heat as the earlier 7.3s (pre-2002).
