coz.. chrasyer(spelled that wrong but don't really care for the brand enough to not correct it) bought mercedes, Audi is VW, acura=honda, lexus=toyota..volvo=i forgot which one..
basically BMW is the one that's worth the most (not talking about money) to own today compared to the others.
Using your Logic, the parents are the independent companies on their own as well.

Aston Martin = Ford
Mazda = Ford
