Can a horizontal waste pipe dump into a vertical pipe via a sanitary tee or should a long sweep tee be used?
Yes. It is perfectly acceptable and proper. The long sweep tee you refer to is actually a combination Y &1/8th bend and is suitable for horizontal to horizontal waste connection or vertical to horizontal waste connection with some exceptions
