I have 2007 chev cobalt. Strong gas odor inside car and trunk. Mechanic said plastic wrapped around exhaust?
Mechanic said that plastic was wrapped underneath the car and that it just needed to melt off. However, when I open the trunk the gas smell is soooooooo strong on the right side of the car. Could this be a bad fuel pump? Mechanic said no leaks found. I'm worried about fire.
The exhaust pipe would melt the plastic. The strong gas odor sounds like you got some bad fuel. Let the tank run close to dry and then refill it at your usual gas station. Hopefully that will stop the smell.
If not there is another problem that needs to be fixed.
