Where can I purchase 14-18 ga. mild steel sheet in St. Louis?
I need a dealer or hardware store that sells to the public in small quantities. I'm not looking for galvanized or stainless, just plain mildsteel. Home depot and lowe's are no help, they sell only small pieces (about 6x18") and charge close to $15 for it. I've priced it out on the internet and a 4' x 4' sheet usually goes for somewhere between $35-$45.
Just look in your yellow pages under "Metal Fabricators" and I am sure you will find a small shop that will sell to you.
Make friends with that fabricator also as he will have a shear and brakes to accomodate your future needs. Most small shops also will be glad to sell their drops-offs at salvage price just so that they don't have to store it and handle it.
