Does anyone have tips for installing the crankshaft gear on a 1981 Camaro, without a special tool?

A piece of heavy steel pipe about between 8 and 10 inches long, A large flat washer that covers the end of the pipe.
some allthread the same size and thread as the crank balancer bolt and a nut to fit the all thread.... or a brass hammer to drive the gear on. The pipe should just fit over the end of the crankshaft and key, Thread the all thread into the crankshaft center hole and install the washer and nut. Tighten the nut using the pipe to press the gear on. Exstensive beating can damage the thrust bearing on the crank, but if you're limited to just the pipe and hammer 2-3 good hits with a brass hammer on the pipe should knock it on. Make sure it seats.
