Toyota Matrix and Scion XD opinions?

Well I've been there and done that with used cars and finally this summer I'm heading out to purchase my first new car. My dad works for BMW of North America so I'm squared away on the advice for first time car buyers etc. But he's more used to high end vehicles and I am aiming for a good commuter/economical car.

I've been eyeballing the Matrix and the Scion XD which are both in my price range. I was wondering if anyone has experiences with these cars. Likes, Dislikes? Complaints? Raves? Let me hear it! (Thanks all!)

I use to work the parts counter at a Toyota dealership.... so you might think I have a biased opinion... maybe I do... but I don't own Toyota's because they don't have enough legroom for my 6'8" body.... LOL Anyhow....

I had a coworker who owned a Matrix and he absolutely loved it. He had the XRS... the little hot rod... and he kept getting tickets with it... I kept telling him that it wasn't the car's fault... so he finally broke down and bought an XB... he loved it so much that he bought another one with a manual transmission. He then decided that he didn't need two of them, so when the special edition GREEN one came out, he traded both of his for the new green one. He absolutely loves them...

From a parts and service standpoint... I don't think you could go wrong with either vehicle. All I ever did for either type of car was basic maintenance (oil changes, brakes, etc.) and accessories.

Go drive both of them... you are the only one that can decide which on fits your needs and wants.
