aftermarket cat converter will not pass smog in California?
I heard that if i install an aftermarket cat converter on my car, it will not pass the smog test in California. Is that true?
because my stock cat converter went out, and i dont wanna pay the dealer $400 to get an OEM one installed, while i can get an aftermarket one for $40 and install it myself.
The aftermarket universal converters don't do as good a job, and aren't certified for California, just check the websites of reputable retailers. They run under $60, but you will fail. If they spot the converter without the type approval, they won't even test you, they will fail you. You need that California approval, and that will cost you extra!
