Why is my new catalytic converter smoking?
Just replaced the catalytic converter and O2 sensors in my 2001 Subaru Outback 4-cyl. When I drive the car it is fine, but as soon as I stop and turn it off smoke starts coming out of the seal between the front of the catalytic converter and the pipe coming off of the manifold. Any ideas what may be going on? I was thinking that during the replacement that crud from the undercarriage could have dropped in the manifold pipe and is now heating up against the converter?
I would get the compression checked in the cylinders just to make sure the oil is not excaping through the exause valves in the engine.
