If I get a catback on my automatic Civic will it improve performance? If not will it at least give better MPG?
It would be on an automatic 99 EX (vtec) coupe. Which brand is the best to buy for more of a deep tone? I dont mind it loud as long as it is a deeper sound. And since it wont make it faster would it benefit the engine in other ways like giving me better MPG? I already have an AEM short ram intake on it. Would magnaflow exhaust be a good exhaust to use being that it is a little cheaper i dont have a lot to spend/
I assume the reason "spooled" saw a 20 hp increase is because he was running a very restrictive exhaust with a turbo. Otherwise, he's making it up. You really won't see any increase in performance at all, and since the catalytic converter is where most of the backpressure is created, you won't see much of a gain in MPG either. Most people that do this just want to hear their cars more - and that's usually a good idea for cars with Straight 6's, V8's, or bigger. But I4's (I have one, so I'm not just hating here) don't GENERALLY sound good with loud exhausts. There are exceptions, like BMW's M10 from the 60's.
I wouldn't really spend any money on it - any slight mpg increase you got would be completely thwarted by the amount of money you'll spend to buy and ship an exhaust system.
