How can you test a cat's temperament?
I will be adopting a cat from the pound in the next week and was wondering if there were any techniques for testing their temperaments. I want a sweet natured, cuddly, lap cat that will be tolerant of children....but it's so hard to get to know what a cat is really like in the stressful kennel setting of the pound. Any tips would be appreciated!
Patting is key to all of it! A noisy stressful kennel environment is ideal for seeing how a cat copes with noise and change (or kids) around them. If the cat is tolerant and/or encouraging of patting, stroking, and the sound of your voice, then he/she will most likely do well around the noise and unpredictability of children. If they don't mind their head patted or they are willing to stay on your lap without manual holding, then that is the cat for you!
